5 Symptoms of Neuropathy That Are Often Overlooked

Damage can occur to the nerves of the brain and spine. Both constitute the central nervous system. However, the damage can affect the peripheral nerves (peripheral neuropathy) located throughout the body, outside of brain tissue, and the spine.

This peripheral nervous system is a pathway connected to the central nervous system to deliver information. When neuropathy occurs, nerve cells are damaged. So that there is a communication disorder between the nerves and the central nervous system.

1. Numbness

Numbness, loss of sensation in any area of ​​the body naturally. This is one of the symptoms of neuropathy that should not be ignored. Sometimes people don’t realize that the part of the body that is numb is injured. Because they don’t feel pain in that part.

Even though numbness is not a serious problem, it is worth checking with a doctor to determine the condition of your body. Are experiencing neuropathy or symptoms of certain medical conditions.

2. Tingling

How often do you get numb and ignore this? It may be common for the tingling to occur when you press your feet for too long in a certain sitting position, thus blocking blood flow. For neuropathy symptoms, tingling occurs in the hands and feet.

This tingling sensation is like being pricked by a needle in the leg area. The sensation spreads from the hands to the arms and from the soles of the feet to the rest of the feet. Sometimes the sensation that arises is like being electrocuted or even like a burning sensation.

3. Muscle weakness

An often overlooked symptom of neuropathy is muscle weakness. This muscle weakness is felt when you try to lift or move an object with your hand, but it falls out of your hand.

In addition, the muscles feel weak in moving the legs or arms. This sensation is more pronounced when you are walking. Some people who lose coordination may fall while walking. This symptom of muscle weakness cannot be underestimated.

4. Low blood pressure

Another early symptom of neuropathy is low blood pressure followed by an abnormal heartbeat. For example, dizziness or kliyengan when standing, fainting, until the head feels wandering.

5. Digestive system and bladder disorders

Signs of damage to the nervous system also affect other organs. It is possible for people at risk of neuropathy to experience disorders of the urinary tract and digestive system.
